The Alexander Music School
Summer Courses 2010
in La Alpujarra, Spain
with Cat Jary, Vivien Mackie and others

The Alexander Music School (AMS) is set in Ferreirola, a traditional Spanish mountain village in La Alpujarra, South of Granada. People visit throughout the year, coming for individual lessons and Personal programmes offering intense series of lessons.

AMS caters for both musicians and non-musicians. Non-musicians come for Alexander lessons, and to enjoy being part of the rural mountain community. Free time can be spent enjoy mountain walks, swimming in the river, relaxing in local Spanish bars, or just contemplating the stunning scenery. The more energetic find themesleves helping the locals cultivating the land using the traditional Moorish techniques. Day trips to Granada to visit the Alhambra Palace are possible to arrange too.

For musicians, Cat offers lessons both without and applied to the instrument. Cat can also organize either small-scale, informal performances, or public concerts, depending on each pupil’s wishes. Many musicians find it a very liberating experience, playing outside informally in the mountains, or to a small group of listeners, made up of people that the musician has met and got to know during their time in Ferreirola.

Every year, AMS offers a summer programme with visiting groups and teachers.
