As well as introducing the basic principles of the technique, including inhibition and directions, I work individually with
each participant, including some chair work, table work and going into "monkey".
Where time allows we look at the application of the technique to specific activities, such as using a computer, performing,
sporting activities.
I aim to give partipants an understanding of what to expect when they come for individual lessons, and how learning the
Alexander Technique may be relevant to their lives.
Groups are usually small (three or four people) and we stop for a cup of tea.

Swimming with the Alexander Technique
July dates for The Art of Swimming
in London
with Steven Shaw
Art of Swimming pupils develop a swimming style which looks, feels and is more efficient and comfortable. This in turn
enables them to swim further, improving general levels of fitness.
Using the Alexander Technique, our innovative teaching process develops core learning skills, applicable to a wide range of
daily activities.
Our pupils report:
- Improved poise and body awareness
- Better balance, co-ordination and breathing
- Increased flexibility, strength & vitality
- Enhanced aquatic enjoyment and self confidence
- Stress relief, as swimming is transformed into a meditative activity
Front crawl has many health benefits. It strengthens the back, tones the arms and legs, increases the mobility of
the shoulders and hips as well as improving cardiovascular fitness.
Breaststroke can improve the mobility of many joints including the hips, shoulders, ankles, wrists and spine.
Confidence building group lessons are ideal for beginners and those who have never swum before. The relaxed
environment provides the perfect setting to build confidence in the water.
