Teacher Training Requirements
and Directory of STAT Training Courses

All STAT registered teachers have completed an approved three-year full-time course. There are currently 18 teacher training courses in the UK and Ireland which are regulated through a system of external moderation, and four other STAT regulated courses in Argentina, Austria, Italy and Uruguay. All these courses are listed below.

Applications for teacher training are invited from individuals who are already committed to learning the Alexander Technique for their own personal development; prior experience of individual lessons would usually be expected. Prospective students are encouraged to visit training courses by arrangement and to have lessons with the course director(s) before considering a formal application.

Basic contact information on the training courses is listed below; more detailed information (fees, timetables, curricula, the backgrounds of the director(s), numbers of students, locations, etc is available on a printer-friendly page which you can visit by clicking here.

This same information is available as a photo-copied "brochure" from the Office. More details are of course available from the individual training courses, many of which have their own websites which you can visit by clicking on the links in the list below.

No training course
in your area?

Perhaps you are already committed to learning the Alexander Technique and have experience of individual lessons but there are no STAT approved training courses near to where you live. STAT recognises that not everyone is able to relocate in order to study the Alexander Technique full-time for a variety of reasons. If this is the reason that you are not currently able to commit to full-time study on a STAT training course we would like to hear from you.

We would like to build up a picture of where there is demand for training or lessons. This would not guarantee that a training course could be established because there would need to be members of STAT with the experience and time and energy to commit to establishing a course in your area. However with this information we would be able to consult with the STAT membership and try to see if it is possible to satisfy demand based on the feedback that we receive.

Please contact the office at if you would like to register your interest or if you would just like to leave some feedback.
